Cleaning Your Airstream® RV
With every road trip you take, your Airstream® RV returns home a little less clean. Fallen debris from the campground sits on the roof, dirt and mud cling to the exterior, and so on. This gunk not only looks less-than-appealing, it can start to cause damage over time. Prevent that by following the below guide to washing your Airstream RV.
If you want more camper maintenance tips or want to shop Airstream RVs for sale, visit Airstream of New Mexico. Our dealership is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and we also serve those in Santa Fe and Las Cruces.
1. Wash The Roof
Step one is to clean off your RV's roof. Make sure to use cleaning products that are tailored to the material that makes up the roof. Otherwise, you may not get an effective clean or may cause damage to the roof materials.
If you use a pressure washer, be careful around any protrusions (such as the AC unit or tank exhausts). The seals on these items can be damaged by the intense spray caused by the pressure washer.
If your camper is quite large, divide the roof into a grid. Wash and rinse each section individually. That way, you won't be stuck with sections drying out with soap and dirt still on them.
2. Wash The Walls
The next step is to clean up the walls. Divide the walls into sections. Then, start at the top and work your way down. Once you've cleaned a section, move onto the next.
3. Clean The Awning
If your Airstream RV includes an awning, be sure to give it a quick scrub. But be careful about scrubbing too hard. Otherwise, you could strip away any protective coatings!
4. Tend To The Gaskets And Seals
Your camper's gaskets and seals face weather exposure constantly, which wears them down over time. Spray them with a silicone based spray at least once a year to help prevent degradation. Since you're already tending to your Airstream RV's exterior, now is a great time to do this maintenance task.
5. Clean The Wheels
Take a minute to inspect the wheels on your Airstream RV. They should be free of rust, corrosion, and other such damage. Then, take a minute to clean and polish the wheels.
